2009 Breedlove Lap Steel Koa

[SOLD] Luthier Jayson Bowerman, an assistant to Master Luthier Kim Breedlove for over a decade, was challenged by guitarist Ed Gerhard to build a new Weissenborn-style guitar. Jayson spent substantial time with Ed's original Weissenborn guitars as research. They are known for their tone and vibe, although notoriously temperamental as well due to their antiquated building practices. Jayson built several prototypes, matching top graduations, trying different bracings, and adding a few distinctly Breedlove attributes, until he achieved the result he was seeking - an awesomely modern and stable version of the original Weissenborn.

This custom shop Breedlove Lap Steel features Solid Koa top, back, and sides. It has a woody and deep sound with clarity, along with haunting sustain. Built like a traditional lap steel with a hollow neck, it produces a lot of sound for such a relatively small package. But for additional volume, we've also added the LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole pickup.
