Dave McCombs, Guitar Sales
Dave McCombs is based in Columbus, OH, and works with DHR Music on an as-needed basis with guitar sales support. He joins us at special events such as guitar shows, guitar clinics, and community events. He also helps oversee the DHR Music Experience showroom when we need additional support. Lastly, Dave assists us with a myriad of store related support, lending his expertise from his background in store management - including cleaning, restringing, and testing out inventory, assisting with guitar appraisals, and numerous store maintenance activities. Our clientele appreciate Dave's easy going nature and low pressure approach, while being highly knowledgeable of the guitar and music industry.
Dave's interest in music began early when he decided to study the guitar at the age of eleven. At 15 he began teaching private lessons in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.and playing with a quintet for private parties and weddings. In particular, he was known for playing at all the surrounding high schools who needed a guitarist for their orchestra and/or jazz band. In the early '70's Dave was employeed by Moehler Music in Zanesville, OH, while he completed his bachelor of art's degree in Music Education from Muskingum College. Classical guitar was his major's instrument. Upon his graduation in 1975, he transferred to Moehler Music's Dayton, OH, store to manage their guitar department. He oversaw all sales during the day and provided private lessons in the evenings. He also performed with a duo (female vocalist and guitar), jazz quartet, and a 20 piece big band.
From 1976 to 2001, Dave shifted his focus from the music industry for his primary employment to the sales industry, working in a wide range of consultive sales positions over the years, including sales for Craig car stereos, optical frames, inventory services, and hot stamping foils for decorating plastics and graphic arts. Presently he has returned to the music industry, bringing his developed skills to DHR Music guitar sales in Cincinnati, OH, while also teaching private guitar lessons in Columbus, OH. In addition, he performs as a solo classical guitarist and plays for private parties in a guitar duo called "Aura Nova" which incorporates jazz, Brazilian, new age, and original material.
